    Dear Families,
As the month of October is coming to a close, I would like to inform you of some great things that have been happening this month in our classroom:
ELA/SS: Reading/Writing: Study of Human Rights- Our study of Human Rights has begun! Students worked hard on researching the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and are coming together as a larger group as "experts" on their articles. We are working on a mini-article project in which students became experts on specific articles from the UDHR. We are going to be reading various texts that relate to the topic of Human Rights including an article on Malala Yousufzai (The notable figure that our classroom is named after) as well as Historical Fiction book called Esperanza Rising.
Math- We have begun our second unit in Math which has to do with the Numbers and Operations in base ten. We are particularly focusing on decimals. We are going to move into adding/subtracting and multiplying/dividing decimals for this new unit.
Science- We are working on learning about the Scientific Method and are beginning a major experiment on leaves!
    Important Upcoming Dates:
11/5/15- Student Led Conferences discussing Progress Reports (Parent/Teacher Conferences)
    11/6/15- In Class Spelling Bee
    11/13/15- Trip to Philadelphia!
    9/29/15
    Dear Families,
As the month of September comes to a close, I would like to inform you of some great things that have been happening this month in our classroom:
Naming Your Classroom Project- Students worked hard on their projects and brainstormed notable figures that they would like our classroom to be named after. They came together as a group to research and to write a book on that figure. The books have come together very nicely! We can't wait to display them for everyone to see!
Math- We have begun our first unit in Math which has to do with the Numbers and Operations in base ten. We will be multiplying and dividing numbers and solving multi-step problems during this unit to help students reach their goals.
Field Day- Field Day is approaching on October 8th and there are some other field trips in the works that I will be letting you know of very soon!
